Product Overview

Neroli Oil is a plant oil distilled from bitter orange or sweet orange blossoms. It ranges in color from pale yellow to amber with a slight bluish fluorescence, and has a characteristic fresh orange blossom fragrance. It is a clear, fluid liquid. Neroli Oil is used in perfumes and the pharmaceutical industry. It is utilized in high-end fragrances and cosmetics. The aromatic distillate obtained after distillation is known as Orange Blossom Water and is also used in perfumes and pharmaceuticals.

Neroli Oil Production Process

  1. Distillation Method
  2. Solvent Extraction Method
  3. Supercritical CO2 Extraction

Currently, in China, the extraction processes for Neroli Oil mainly involve distillation and solvent extraction. Distillation can degrade some of the heat-sensitive aromatic compounds in the orange blossoms, altering the unique scent and quality of the oil. Solvent extraction, using organic solvents like hexane or petroleum ether, lacks effective selectivity for volatile oil components, resulting in lower extraction efficiency and higher impurity levels. Solvent residues can affect the aroma and impact the oil's use in cosmetics and food. Supercritical CO2 extraction is an advanced separation technique, particularly suitable for extracting low-boiling-point substances from natural products.

Neroli Oil Benefits and Uses

Neroli Oil is extracted from the petals of orange blossoms and mainly contains components like Limonene and Nerolidol. Limonene helps inhibit bacterial growth and reduce inflammation, while Nerolidol has antioxidant properties that help eliminate free radicals.

Plant Source - Orange Blossom

Bitter Orange (Citrus × aurantium Engl.) is a small tree in the Rutaceae family and Citrus genus. It has a few-flowered raceme, sometimes with axillary single flowers. The fruit is spherical or slightly flattened, with thick, difficult-to-peel skin, orange-yellow or reddish color, large oil glands, uneven surface, and acidic, sometimes bitter, pulp. Leaves are oval to elongated, entire or slightly toothed, with winged petioles. Flowering occurs in April to May, with fruiting in November to December.

Bitter Orange is native to tropical Asia but is now widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions, including cultivation in southern China. It prefers warm, humid climates with ample rainfall and good sunlight, thriving at an average annual temperature above 15°C. It is adaptable to various soils but grows best in neutral sandy loam, with heavy clay soils being unsuitable. Bitter Orange can be propagated by seed or grafting.

The immature fruit of Bitter Orange, known as "Zhi Shi" in traditional medicine, is used for its bitter, pungent, and acidic taste and warming properties. It is effective for breaking qi stagnation, reducing accumulation, and resolving phlegm. Pregnant women should use it with caution. The tree is evergreen, with aromatic white flowers in spring and orange-yellow fruit in autumn, continuing into the following spring. It is a valuable ornamental and fruit tree, suitable for garden planting, street trees, or lawn clusters.
